FolderInsight ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is an Android storage analysis, junk cleaning, duplicate file finding, and image compression application developed by SmartLayer Solutions.

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how FolderInsight operates, our strict on-device data processing model, the permissions required for functionality, advertising integrations, and how your privacy is safeguarded.

1. Local Processing & Data Handling

FolderInsight is an offline storage management utility. All core operations — including disk scanning, directory size computation, duplicate detection, junk cleaning, and image compression — run locally on your Android device.

  • Local File Access: The App inspects your file system solely to perform the actions you trigger (such as scanning for duplicates, analyzing folder sizes, or compressing photos). Your personal files, photos, videos, and documents are never collected, monitored, or transmitted to any external servers.
  • No User Accounts: FolderInsight does not require user registration, email addresses, or personal accounts to function.
  • Local Statistics: App preferences and statistics (such as lifetime cleaned space) are saved locally on your device in private app storage.

2. Android Permissions & Their Purpose

To perform storage analysis, cleaning, and optimization, FolderInsight requests specific Android system permissions. Each permission is used solely for its stated purpose on-device:

  • All Files Access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ & WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Required to scan storage directories, compute folder sizes, identify duplicate files via checksums, safely delete selected junk items, and write compressed WebP images back to storage at your direction.
  • Usage Statistics (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) & Query Packages (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES): Required for the App Manager feature to inspect installed application sizes, cache footprints, and display app storage breakdown locally.
  • Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROCESSING): Allows batch file moves and media compression tasks to continue reliably in the background without being killed by Android battery optimization.
  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Required on Android 13+ to display ongoing progress and completion notifications during background operations.
  • In-App Billing (BILLING): Facilitates optional Google Play in-app purchases to unlock the Pro version (ad removal).
  • Network Access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, AD_ID): Used exclusively to load advertisements via the Unity Ads SDK for free tier users and to communicate with Google Play Billing.

3. Advertising & Third-Party Services

The free version of FolderInsight is supported through third-party advertising provided by Unity Ads.

  • Unity Ads SDK: May collect technical device data, general location (e.g., country level derived from IP), and standard advertising identifiers (Google Advertising ID / AD_ID) to deliver, cap frequency, and measure advertisements. Advertisers have no access to your personal files or storage contents.
  • Opting Out: You can reset or delete your Advertising ID at any time in your Android system settings: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Reset or Delete Advertising ID.

  • Ad-Free Pro Upgrade: Upgrading to FolderInsight Pro disables the ad SDK and removes all advertisements entirely.

4. In-App Purchases (Google Play Billing)

When you purchase FolderInsight Pro, the payment transaction is handled directly and securely by Google Play. SmartLayer Solutions does not collect, receive, or store your credit card details, bank information, or billing address.

5. Data Security

Because FolderInsight does not upload files or maintain external user accounts, the security of your stored data remains under your direct physical and operating system control on your Android device. All network communications related to ads or billing use encrypted HTTPS protocols.

6. Children's Privacy

FolderInsight is a utility tool not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

7. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect modifications in application functionality, Android OS guidelines, or legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
